It is responsible for about 16.7% of industrial production, generating products worth PLN 442.4 billion, as confirmed by data in a report published by the Polish Chamber of Chemical Industry. The sector employs more than 341,000 people, making it one of the largest employers in the industry.

Strong sector – big challenges

According to a 2023 report by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP), there are more than 22,000 registered entities operating in the chemical industry in Poland. The largest share is accounted for by companies engaged in the production of rubber and plastic products, followed by companies producing chemicals and chemical products.

– However, the chemical sector is facing challenges such as rising energy and raw material costs, imports of cheap fertilizers and regulatory burdens. In this rapidly changing economic environment, the Faculty of Chemistry at Gdansk University of Technology is making every effort to ensure that its students and graduates are best prepared to enter the job market. With their future in mind, we organize, among other things, Job Fairs and the Faculty Open Day – events that allow direct contact with representatives of companies, learning about current job and internship offers, as well as a better understanding of the realities of the modern chemical industry,” says Vice Dean for Development, Prof. Juliusz Orlikowski, PhD.

We combine science and business

That is why the Department of Chemistry and the Career and Alumni Office of Gdansk University of Technology have joined forces to organize an event combining the Job Fair and the Open Day of the Department of Chemistry. They will run in parallel, offering participants a variety of opportunities to develop and learn about both the world of science and business.

The Job Fair (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) will be held in the Fahrenheit courtyard. Students, graduates and high school students will meet directly with representatives of renowned companies in the chemical industry and the Gdansk City Hall, which will also present its offer.

– Among the exhibitors will be the largest companies in the industry and many other well-known brands. You can see the full list on our website and social media. Participants will be able to talk about job, internship and apprenticeship offers, learn about the specifics of each company’s operations and find out what competencies are most valued in the labor market today,” says organizer Monika Downar, head of the Career and Alumni Office at Gdansk University of Technology
Open Day of the Faculty of Chemistry

–The Chemistry Department’s Open Day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a lecture by Joanna Mytnik, Ph.D., entitled Gamification – Motivation and Engagement at a New Level, which should be of particular interest to teachers of all levels of education. The event will run concurrently, in the Hevelius courtyard. This is an ideal space to learn more about the faculty’s educational offerings, talk to academics and students, and discover what everyday academic life is like, adds Jacek Gębicki, Ph.D., Prof. PG, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at Gdansk University of Technology

The event will also be attended by partners involved in actively supporting the development of professional and career paths, including the Gdansk Employment Office, Gdansk Entrepreneurship Foundation, Gdansk Real Estate and the Department of Regional Development of the Marshal’s Office.
